VETO

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 5, 2026

Veto is a browser extension that lets you teach websites how to behave: hide an element, click an element automatically, or remember a control's setting. This policy describes everything the extension does with data.

Your rules stay on your device

Every rule you create is stored locally in your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local). Rules never leave your device. There are no accounts, no sync servers, and no cloud. Uninstalling the extension deletes all of your rules and settings.

What the extension does on pages you visit

The extension only acts on a page when you have created a rule for that site. It requests access to all sites because you can choose to teach any site. On sites where you have no rules, it reads its own locally stored settings, finds nothing to do, and goes idle. It does not read, modify, or transmit anything from the page.

The extension never reads your browsing history, never collects page content, and never executes remote code. Rules are data, not scripts.

The one thing that is counted

To learn whether this product is worth continuing, the extension sends one anonymous event when you create a rule. The event contains:

and nothing else. It does not contain the website you were on, the element you selected, the rule's label, any page content, or any identifier tied to you. There are no cookies and no persistent identifiers of any kind. The event is sent from the extension's background worker, so no browsing context or referrer accompanies it.

The event is received by Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused, EU-hosted analytics service that stores no personal data. Your IP address is used transiently by Plausible to de-duplicate daily counts and is not stored.

You can turn this off. The counter has a visible toggle in the extension's popup. Switching it off stops all transmission immediately. The extension is fully functional with it off.

Payments and license keys

Veto is free on 3 sites. Unlimited sites are unlocked by a subscription, billed by Polar as the merchant of record. Payment happens entirely on Polar's checkout pages: your card and billing details never touch the extension, and we never see them.

If you subscribe, Polar issues you a license key. The extension stores that key locally (in the same local extension storage as your rules) and periodically checks it against Polar's public validation endpoint to confirm the subscription is still active. That check contains only the license key itself. It carries no browsing data, no rules, no page content, and nothing about how you use Veto.

What we never do

Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it, and any material change to what is collected will be reflected in the extension's store listing before it ships.
